The New Carlsberg Museum is an integrated part of Copenhagen’s cultural history, as well as a magnificent tourist attraction that attracts more than 350.000 visitors each year. The Museum’s history is unusual, but it exudes a love for art. What is now an internationally known museum, actually started as the private art collection of the brewer and founder of Carlsberg, Carl Jacobsen.
In 2011 a very important part of the exhibit – the beautiful Winter Garden – was faced with a challenge regarding heating. House architect, Dan Ljungar from Bonde Ljungar Architects headed the project in collaboration with engineers from Moe & Brødsgaard A/S. Because the museum is a listed building, a solution was necessary that respected the rich history of the buildings while complementing the aesthetics of the Garden without drawing attention from the extraordinary exhibit. The solution became a subtle work of art in itself: a 16 meter long Hudevad SC radiator with a brass handrail on top that doubles as a railing at the Garden’s level difference.
In addition to the iconic black and brass detailed Hudevad SC radiator, large Hudevad Plan XV were mounted on the walls of other exhibit halls, and Hudevad P5 radiators were mounted directly underneath the impressive overhead windows in order to limit cold draughts.
